Massachusetts woman Xiu Fang Ke was accused of killing her former landlord and friend, Leonard Garber, by bludgeoning him with a hammer. Ke had been forging more than $40,000 in checks in Garber’s name to cover her gambling debts. When Garber found out about the theft he confronted Ke, she allegedly struck and killed him then tried to hide the body.
September 26th, Garber’s friends and family reported him missing after not hearing from him for the past few days. The police went to conduct a wellness check on him but didn’t get an answer. They went back twice the next day. On the third visit to his residence, police gained entry into Garber’s home. They found the body of the 65-year-old wrapped in a curtain under construction materials.
Police started to focus on Ke after hearing that Garber was “spending time with a former female tenant.” Police found surveillance footage of Ke outside Garber’s home in the days before his body was found. Authorities also found out about the forged checks. When police confronted Ke she allegedly confessed to killing Garber.
‘"During the interview, the defendant admitted that she had stolen checks from Leonard Garber and that she had killed him," Assistant District Attorney Julie Kunkel said Wednesday [September 28] in court... "She later stated that she had used a hammer and hid his body in the location where it was eventually found by police."’ Ke is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court again for a probable cause hearing on Oct. 31 (oxygen).

This was a double crime. Ke committed theft as well as murder. She stole the life of a beloved member of the Newton community. I hope that she is plagued by what she has done for the rest of her life and that she spends it in prison.
